David’s Story

Coming from a small rural town in the Panhandle of Florida, David had to relocate to South Florida in 2013 leaving behind his two young children in order to find work to provide for his family. After a year of working away from home his spouse of over 10 years left him and immediately after he was in a terrible accident that left him with a broken back in a trauma center all alone. When he met SFH he was at his worst. He had not seen his children and was battling a family law case to get basic parental rights to see the children. He was paying an extraordinary amount to the courts, had lost his home, his vehicle, and was living off dollars in his account. With no credit, no education, no parents and no support from anyone he was on a path to alcoholism and self-destruction. SFH offered David free services to support with legal document preparation, guide him through vocational and educational options to improve his work situation, and provided a path to restore his credit and finances. Within a few years he was out of his legal challenges with the courts, had credit and savings in the bank, was able to purchase property, finance a vehicle, and most importantly received the gift of raising both his children full-time. David was not only able to overcome life’s greatest obstacles, but he was able to see full restoration in his family, his finances, and his purpose. SFH was able to assist David in navigating the processes to opening a small business and now he is in the process of opening a second business. Both his children have also experienced complete changes in their lives. His young son went from failing school to getting straight A’s and his daughter went from reading and performing math at a 2nd grade level to now being almost fully caught up to her grade level. SFH was able to assist him with his children’s academic needs and provide assistance to him as he learned to become an involved parent in the lives of two growing children. The children and father are both doing great!
